A shattering poem by the Ukrainian poet, written shortly before his death on the front line of eastern Ukraine, became the basis for this song. Its movements also incorporate two choral odes from ancient tragedy, sung in a stunning interpretation by the Ukrainian choristers of the Kamerton group led by Natalia Yakubus — through the direction and care of Sergios Voudris, who arranged and produced the song in collaboration with Miltos Pavlou.

Miltos Pavlou’s English rendering of the poem, with two choral odes in Greek, was embraced by Maksym’s family and the poet’s publishing house Nash Format.

“Maksym «Dali» Kryvtsov was a warrior, poet and photographer. He loved life. He dreamed of creating. But the war destroyed all plans. On January 7, 2024, while defending his native country, Maksym died in battle in the Kharkiv region. The creative work of «Dali» allows us to touch his soul — pure, kind, bright. And see the world as Maksym Kryvtsov saw it.”

Maksym’s poetry has been translated into Greek by Nikos Valkanos (ed.-publ.), published by ΕΝΑΛΛΑΚΤΙΚΕΣ ΕΚΔΟΣΕΙΣ under the title «Ποιήματα από την πολεμίστρα».

BIO

Miltos Pavlou was born and raised in Thessaloniki, to parents from refugee families of Asia Minor and Thrace, and today lives and works in Vienna, Austria. He is a researcher and author on human rights, with studies in Sociology (Italy) and Law (Thessaloniki). Today he serves at the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA). Alongside his main professional career, he composes and writes songs in Greek, English and Italian — about love, travel, places, people, and everything that is worthwhile and gives meaning to life.
